Matt Pierce is a DJ / independent writer on the East Coast (Boston , New
York ). LYNN ALLEN And The Horse You Rode In On © 2007 Escape Music (ESM163) I talked with Billy Peiffer front man and songwriter for Lynn Allen Via phone, here's what he had to say. MP. Despite your best efforts to remain unpopular it looks like you have reached the inevitable. You are starting to get popular give us your thoughts. Billy. Well we weren't trying to remain unpopular LoL. We were just putting out albums, trying to survive, and have fun. MP. Why now? 10 years have passed since you put out "Petrified Ice Cream". What was the hold up? Billy. I did put out a few CD's it was just a different style of music. "Billy Peiffer and Iowa" is a project I still have. As far as Lynn Allen goes it just wasn't the right time for me to write a new Lynn Allen album. MP. The new CD is making some waves abroad and finally at home here in the states. What are the bands plans as far as touring? Does it depend on how the CD sells? Billy. It does depend on how it sells. We have plans at the moment to travel to the UK sometime this summer. We will try to cover a few Countries in Europe while we are over there as well. But I have to be honest. A tour like that isn't cheap. We will have to see what the CD sales bring. MP. That is great but what about here at home? Are you just going to hang around Iowa and Illinois? No offence intended. Billy. LOL None taken! The odds of us getting on some big tour in the States this year are astronomical. Promoters in the States just don't seem to pick up bands that have an Indie deal over seas. We are trying to take a different path and tag along on a few smaller tours this summer. MP. You have had record deals in the past why is this one different? You have always put out great music and the CD's have always sounded great. Billy. Thank you! Escape music is the only one that has given us any kind of a push. They have really been great to work with. MP. From the video I have seen of the band you guys aren't a typical band. It's like a combination game show host / bad Las Vegas announcer in between songs. What is that all about? Almost a Van Halen knock off kind of a thing. Billy. LOL Well to be honest we have been doing that as long as they have. I think it started from being nervous on stage when I first started out. We still do all of that fucking around though. Our fans expect it now. I have always subscribed to the theory that rock music is supposed to be enjoyed to the fullest. I don't mean to knock any of the really heavy bands that are trying to scare the shit out of their audience. For us it's just a day at the office. Drink a few with the crowd and see if we can have a laugh in between songs. MP. Wrapping up. What kind of response are you getting at home? Is the record selling? Is there a good buzz about the thing? Billy. The record is selling good enough here at home but we didn't really promote it all that heavy. It's still a new record though. As far as press goes we haven't really had much around here. There were a few small articles in the local news papers. There is a local music rag around here but we kind of have an agreement. They don't talk about us and we don't read their rag. MP. LoL Now you have me laughing. Thanks for your time! Billy. It was my pleasure! |
