FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 3, 2007 LYNN ALLEN And The Horse You Rode In On © 2007 Escape Music (ESM163) If it wasn't for my buddy Kelv Hellrazer I probably would never have made the acquaintance of Iowa based Lynn Allen. Sure I had heard their name on a couple of occasions, mainly due to the fact that that very mister Hellrazer has been championing the combo for years. And rightfully so I must add. Formed in 1982 by lead vocalist/guitarist and sole remaining original member Billy Pfeiffer, the band has so far released 5 studio albums and with "And The Horse You Rode In On" they have just added a sixth chapter to their 25 year long history. Pinpointing the exact style of Lynn Allen is not an easy task and could be due to the fact that I'm not well grounded when it comes to AOR/melodic rock although the outfit's unique take and said genres no doubt has something to do with it as well. All the ingredients that make up an excellent melodic release are present in large quantities: numerous hooks, heavenly melodies, heartfelt lyrics and Billy's passionate vocals. Tracks like opener "I Will If You Will", "Leaving Las Vegas" or any of the other 8 songs on offer now that I come to think of it, are more contagious than a case of the flu and will get under your skin after one single spin. Many albums take a dip after 3 or 4 songs only to return to full strength on the last 2 or 3 cuts but not this here release. Honesty however bids me to say that crown jewel of the disc comes in the shape of closing tune "How Long". An absolute gem complete with touching lyrics and a very infectious melody, not to mention some great vocals. I don't know who handled production duties here but whoever it was he did a fine job dressing the whole affair in a very '80's styled jacket. If all goes as planned the band will hit the UK (and maybe a couple of European countries as well?) for some live dates to back up the release of their UK debut on CD. But whether they will play a town near you or not, don't miss out on this excellent platter and get your personal copy ASAP. |
